1: Transparent, workable encryption of all laptops. Depending on the size and configuration of the individual or business, software licensed at no charge or commercial offerings may be best.

2: Project based encryption to minimize damage in case of theft or compromise.

3: Public key infrastructure/web of trust consultation for suitable security.

4: Backup infrastructure. More than 50% of companies fail if they lose their machine data and don't have backups. This is how Texas Textbooks went out of business in 2001, being fallen both to the loss of data, as well as cutthroat competition.

5: Security, MBSA on Windows machines, IDS items on the network.

6: Making company policies. Not one size fits all, but policies tailored to what is needed, without being unduly restrictive.

7: Physical security of servers. Is there a policy in place to help minimize the effects of theft of equipment?

8: Virtualization. For a lot of applications, a virtual machine setup is critical. VMs allow for upgrading of hardware without disturbing the configuration of client operating systems (something which would require reinstallation with XP or Windows 2003, or reactivation of most new Windows based operating systems.) Virtualization is not a magic bullet. Some tasks require a host, such as file sharing.

9: Archiving of data. What program, what format, where, and is there a policy in place for destroying archives not needed, such as tax records over 7 years.

Backup scheduling and policies.  Each company has their own different needs.  Some companies have a store of critical documents.  Others such as studios have terabytes of music or video files that need to be accessible at a moment's notice.  Too much policy can waste large amounts of money, but not enough can cause a company to fail, or even worse, have criminal charges levied against them for not adhering to regulations.
